Air Travel
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport: This is a 45-minute car ride to the conference venue, Sawmill Creek Resort.
Services like Uber and Lyft are available between the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Sawmill Creek Resort for varying rates ($50-$100 each way). Rental cars are also available at the airport.
Ground Travel
Amtrak Train: Sandusky terminal (code SKY) is a 15-minute car ride to the conference venue, Sawmill Creek Resort.
Greyhound Bus: Sandusky terminal is a 15-minute car ride to the conference venue, Sawmill Creek Resort.
Car travel: There is ample parking at Sawmill Creek Resort for anyone who will be driving to the conference.
Lodging
The conference organizers have secured a rate of $159/night at the conference venue, Sawmill Creek Resort, for the duration of the conference.

Grace Klein-MacPhee Student Travel Grants
Grants to support student travel to participate in LFC47 are available. Previous travel grants have ranged between $300 and $600 (USD) per student, with higher amounts awarded to students requiring transcontinental or long-distance travel.
The application deadline is March 1, 2024 (corresponding to the abstract submission deadline). All undergraduate and graduate students who are current members (full or affiliate) of the AFS-Early Life History Section (ELHS) are eligible to apply. If not a member, please considering joining our Section as an affiliate member for $15 here.
How to Apply: Interested students should email the following to ELHS Secretary, Hannah Murphy, (Hannah.Murphy@dfo-mpo.gc.ca).
- Extended (1-page) abstract that may include a figure
- CV (3 pages maximum)
Separately, the student’s advisor must also email a letter to the ELHS Secretary, Hannah Murphy, (Hannah.Murphy@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) containing the following:
- Confirms student status
- Indicates whether the student is at the “start,” “middle,” or “end” of their degree
- Rates the quality of the research that will be presented
- Discusses the need for travel funds (e.g., whether co-funding is available)
- Indicates if a visa is required to attend the conference to prioritize our application review
